Long Center
Another
Beautiful Day in Paradise. We had cool temperatures in the 80s, cloudy
skies and a nice little NW breeze. Bladers/Bicyclers (on
the left) Dorey Anne, Barbara M, Bruce M, Rick P, Ginnie S, Jeff B, Rob H, Joe
W, Carol J, Roy H and Nick S came. Welcome all. As the weather looked a
little like rain we didn't have any roller bladers. This left our choice of a
route a little more flexible. We decided to do the Long Center Trail East to
Bayshore Drive. Then instead of heading North we would head South along Bayshore
Drive to Hwy 60 and the Courtney Campbell Causeway. This was a little risky as
we had not done the sidewalk going South before. The sidewalk was fairly narrow
and did have a few bumps in it but it was only 0.9 miles to Hwy 60 and the
Courtney Campbell Causeway. We headed East on the new Courtney Campbell Causeway
to the new little bridge and the back to Bayshore Drive. A round trip of 3.4
miles. You could cruse about 15 mph on the new and smooth trail with the wind at
your back going East on Courtney Campbell Causeway but coming back against the
wind only about 9 mph with the same effort. A new and exciting adventure at the
very least. Our only complaint would be that you would have to pay $3/Hr to park
in the sand on the West end and there were no bathrooms.
We ended up doing 12 miles round trip with 11 bicyclers.
We Brunched at the Sunset Grill as planned. We got
right in as Joe W went ahead and made reservations for us. Thanks Joe. Service
was okay and the coffee flowed pretty good. As we waited for our food to come,
an ugly torrent of rain started outside. Fortunately the rain stopped before we
were finished eating. We had ratings from 9.6 to 9.8.
We'll give the Sunset Grill a rating of 9.7
