I proclaimed this the best Pinellas Trail Skate ever! Despite the rains, the 2013 Pinellas Trail Skate was a big success. This happened because these skaters/bikers made it so.

Bruce M. led the Thursday and Friday skate/ride, and took all the photos for our event. Thank you Bruce for all the help you provide, thank you!

The Friday night Social had a constant drizzle but we had a big crowd and lots of food. Darry and Michael just went out of their way to make it special with a bon fire in the back and ‘spirits’ to celebrate with. Many people caught up with old friends they had not seen in a while. Thank you Darry, for the hospitality at your home; it was cozy.

Saturday was pouring on the north part of the trail, so we did not skate from Wall Springs Park. Instead, the 34 miles Skate started at Fergs and went to Taylor Park and back. Skaters had to endure 16 overpasses and some wet pavement, but the trail was dry on the way back. For the 17 miles, the bus went to Taylor Park and dropped off bikers. Some people went for a ride to Taylor Park and back on the bus for a little sightseeing! That was about an hour of goofing. We then waited for all the bikers and skaters to arrive at Fergs. It was fun watching them come in exhilarated and proud of taking on all those overpasses. Some participants came in later to partake of food and prizes. Prizes were fun to give away and Gene Cook donated four registrations to the Great EsSkate in 2014. Thank you very much, Gene!

The dinner at BJ’s Restaurant was a fun evening with good food and service and us.

The Sunday blade had 18 persons and brunch afterwards.

Everyone said they had a great time. The consensus was to do it again in 2014.

See you then!
Willi
